“Look, the colour is going brown now, let’s see what happens if I mix green in it…”
Nursery pupil
Our vision At St Aidan’s, is to engage and inspire our pupils by equipping them with the knowledge and skills to explore and create their own works of art, craft and design. By the time every child leaves St Aidan’s, it is our intent they can feel as if they have found an area of the visual arts that is relevant and engaging to them. Our curriculum is implemented through Kapow, covering the statutory content of the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework and the National Curriculum programmes of Study. Each year the children study four topics, each exploring a range of different focus areas leading to creativity. The impact for all St Aidan’s pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND, is that they apply knowledge and skills in independent pieces of artwork and continue to develop an appreciation of art and its relation to history and culture.
If a pupil has difficulty with Art and Design adaptations, adjustments and interventions can support knowledge and understanding. Any interventions that are necessary will be discussed with parents/carers and Individual targets sheets competed and reviewed if necessary.
