“I enjoy PE because I love teamwork and we learn new skills in different sports”
Yr 5 pupil
The vision for PE at St. Aidan’s is for all children to enjoy PE lessons whilst also shaping their future ideas on how to stay healthy and active. Our intent is to deliver a broad range of sports for the children to develop in. The children will know that being active can look and feel different. They should know that there is a sport for everyone. We would like as many children as possible to represent our school at sports and games. To implement this, we will expose the children to different sports. We will enter a variety of competitions aimed at different levels of competitiveness. We will engage our least active, making sure that they are planned for. The impact of this will be that the children of our school will speak positively of sports and will be able to talk about the sports or games that they will continue throughout the rest of their lives with a knowledge of the importance of staying healthy.
If a pupil has difficulty with Physical Education: adaptations, adjustments and interventions can support knowledge and understanding. Any interventions that are necessary will be discussed with parents/carers and Individual targets sheets competed and reviewed if necessary.
Children will experience swimming in all year groups but will have focussed development lessons beginning in Year 4, children will be assessed in swimming from Year 4 upwards to ensure they meet the National Curriculum expectations by Year 6.
