At St Aidan’s our vision for our Music curriculum is clear within our Music Development Plan (below) and aims to provide high-quality music education that inspires a lifelong love of music, develops skills in performance, composition, and listening, and fosters respect for diverse musical traditions, taught through a comprehensive curriculum. The intent of our music curriculum is to provide a holistic program that integrates performing, listening, composing, music history, and inter-related dimensions like pitch and tempo, ensuring progression and National Curriculum alignment. This is implemented through a spiral curriculum that builds skills year by year where individual strands are woven together to create engaging and enriching learning experiences. The impact of this is that our children will be confident performers, composers and listeners and will be able to express themselves musically at and beyond school.
If a pupil has difficulty with Music; adaptations, adjustments and interventions can support knowledge and understanding. Any interventions that are necessary will be discussed with parents/carers and Individual targets sheets competed and reviewed if necessary.
Archdiocese of Liverpool: Schools’ Singing Programme
Our choral director works with Key Stage 2 classes in sessions that cover many areas of the Music Curriculum including the ‘technical’, ‘constructive’ and ‘expressive’ pillars. At St Aidan’s we seek to maximise the practical musical understanding of all pupils.
The Catholic Faith is at the heart of all our provision; lifting voices together to God we enrich the children’s faith, evangelise and teach, singing the rich heritage of Catholic sacred music, from the oldest chants of the church through to the very best new worship songs. This then feeds into collective worship and Masses.
