Science

“Science is cool, we get to experiment and learn about our world.”
Year 5 pupil

The vision for Science at St. Aidan’s is for all children to enjoy learning, taking part in and understanding each discipline of science.

Our intent is to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics through the National Curriculum objectives.  We would like to develop the understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them. St Aidan’s want our children to be equipped with the scientific knowledge required to think scientifically and understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. We would like our children to understand where science could take them in the future, providing them with aspirations and dreams.

To implement this, we have developed a bespoke approach to teach the National Curriculum objectives. Our Science topics will all include a practical element to help children understand and dispel misconceptions whilst enjoying the subject.

The impact of this will be that the children of our school will speak positively of their Science lessons, using key vocabulary and demonstrating how they have learnt something new about the world. Children will talk about how they could be the scientists of the future.

If a pupil has difficulty with Science; adaptations, adjustments and interventions can support knowledge and understanding. Any interventions that are necessary will be discussed with parents/carers and Individual targets sheets competed and reviewed if necessary.
