At St Aidan’s, we know that children’s health and wellbeing are closely linked to their ability to learn and thrive. Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to lead safe, happy and healthy lives—rooted in our Catholic values.
We implement the PSHE Association’s programme alongside the Archdiocese of Liverpool’s Journey in Love scheme, ensuring we meet all statutory requirements for Relationships, Health and Sex Education. Our curriculum has been carefully shaped to reflect the context of our school community, making learning relevant and meaningful for our children.
PSHE is woven through school life and other subjects like Science and Computing, supporting pupils to understand issues such as online safety, emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, and how to seek support when needed. Children also learn about the risks linked to drugs and alcohol, criminal exploitation, grooming, and radicalisation in age-appropriate ways, as well as practical topics like road safety and anti-bullying.
The impact is clear: pupils at St Aidan’s—regardless of background or need—develop self-awareness, emotional intelligence and confidence, with a strong understanding of how to keep themselves safe and well in an ever-changing world.
