Our vision at St Aidan’s, is to provide children with fun and engaging speaking, listening and writing opportunities in Spanish, helping them to develop a love on languages and an understanding of cultures. By the time every child leaves St Aidan’s, it is our intent they develop an interest in learning a second language and to gain an understanding of the world. Our MFL curriculum is implemented through Language Angels, covering the statutory content of the National Curriculum programmes of Study for MFL. Key Stage 2 classes study three topics per year, where the previous language learnt is recycled, revisited and consolidated through explicit teaching of grammar, phonics and vocabulary. The impact for St Aidan’s pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND, is that they apply their knowledge of Spanish vocabulary and grammatical structures as they progress through the curriculum, improving communication skills, cultural understanding and confidence.
