Events in Knowsley Libraries – Feb-April 2019

Free ‘Well Funny Workshops’

They say laughter is the best medicine, and the ‘Well Funny Workshops’ coming to Knowsley’s libraries will explore why this is true! The sessions focus on improving mental health and wellbeing through humour. Brought to you by The Comedy Trust and led by Sam Avery, this award-wining stand-up comedian uses comedy to help people become happier and healthier.

We know laughing makes us feel good but how much do you really know about the health benefits? The workshops involve discussions around how laughing and humour helps us to connect with others, build relationships, resilience, and adds to our happiness.

Come along to learn what you can get out of having a bit of a sense a humour and a good old giggle, and you’ll leave knowing the importance of humour which can benefit you in everyday life including in the stressful working environment.

These workshops are part of the Great Emerging Marvellous (GEM) Places Initiative which is funded through Arts Council England. These engaging sessions are aimed at adults (over 18’s), and those experiencing confidence issues, depression or anxiety can particularly benefit.

Interactive performance experience in Knowsley’s libraries

‘Pedal Players: Mischief through the Ages’ is an exciting interactive play which will give children an ‘out of this world’ experience!

The time machine is broken and the Pedal Players have been stuck in a time continuum, cycling around in circles for centuries. And time is running out. This is where your help is needed…

Get ready to embark on your incredible journey, learning how to become a brave time traveller in the Non-Intergalactic Travellers (N.I.T) training programme. Along the way, you’ll be dealing with mayhem, pulling pranks, and learning cool stories, myths and legends  – all while saving the world!

Told through storytelling, original songs, and instruments, and inspired by folklore and heritage, this production will send you on a magical journey across time and space.

Pedal Players is ideal for children aged seven to 11 but all of the family can get involved and enjoy the adventure.

Performances are on Monday 18 February at 11am at Prescot Library, and 2.30pm at Stockbridge Village Library.

Tickets are just £3 each which you buy in person at each library, or you can book online via Eventbrite where an extra fee applies. Book for the Prescot Library performance or the Stockbridge Village Library performance.

This play is part of the Great Emerging Marvellous (GEM) Places Initiative which is funded through Arts Council England, and brings exciting cultural events and activities to libraries in Knowsley.

Unique puppet show coming to Halewood library

Kit and Caboodle is a show that is nothing like you will have seen before! In this show, you’ll experience different puppet shows from inside one big mule puppet that is full of surprises.

The mule will be joined by two companions to help tell stories and sing songs about remarkable journeys taken by those who set out to find a better life. Whilst the theme is migration, a hot topic in the world at the moment, the show remains family-friendly and is easy to understand by children.

During the 35-minute production, there will be three miniature puppet shows as well as fun songs and a time to ask any questions you might have.

Kit and Caboodle is performed by Thingumajig Theatre, a visual theatre company specialising in creating and performing with interactive giant puppets. This unique show is able to come to Knowsley thanks to the Great Emerging Marvellous (GEM) Places Initiative which is funded through Arts Council England. The initiative is bringing different type of art including visual art, live theatre, and music, to Knowsley’s libraries.

You can see the mule and its friends at Halewood Library on Thursday 18 April 2019 at 12pm and 3pm

Tickets are just £3 and can be bought online or at Halewood Library from mid-February.
